Eligibility Questions

Who is eligible to sign up?

Inuit artists over 18 are eligible to become members. Members will need to have an active IAQ Profile to fully access DQAP. If you do not already have an active IAQ Profile, don't worry! There will be a short verification period while the IAF staff get you set up with one.

I am Inuk from outside of Canada, can I join?

Yes of course! Inuit everywhere are welcome to join. Since the IAF is located in Canada, content developed for launch primarily supports artists in the country. However, new content is added all the time and will be developed for artists outside of Canada. If you have suggestions for resources to include, please let us know by using our contact form or emailing us at artist services[at]inuitartfoundation[dot]org!

How do we determine who is an Inuk artist?

The IAF follows its General Program Eligibility Policy on confirming Inuit identity for all of its programs, including eligibility for DQAP.
We also understand that there are many different ways to define an artist. We believe that a professional artist makes a significant ongoing commitment to developing their artistic practice, which can be demonstrated in a variety of ways. Generally, that means that you meet at least two of these criteria

  • You’ve developed skills through training or practice, consistent with the standards of your artistic discipline(s);
  • You’re recognized by other artists working in the same artform as an artist;
  • You’re committed to your own artistic vision, retain creative control of your work and are committed to the creation and/or promotion of original work;
  • You have a history of public presentation of your artwork in a professional context;
  • You seek payment for their work; and/or
  • You have created work, over a period of time, that is recognized as artwork by your community.

This doesn't mean that only artists whose work are in museum exhibitions are eligible, though! We strongly encourage emerging artists to apply to help support your practice. So long as you make work regularly and are interested in a career as an artist, you will generally be eligible.
If you have questions or feel that you qualify as a professional artist under different criteria, please reach out to artistservices[at]inuitartfoundation[dot]org with a description of your work and we will review internally.

What if I don't have an art practice yet?

At this time, if you are not creating art, you are not eligible to sign up for DQAP access. However, please see our criteria noted in the above FAQ for who is considered an artist to see if you qualify. If you can advocate that you are creating artwork, please reach out to artistservices[at]inuitartoundation[dot]org with a description of your work, and we will review internally.

Why do I need an IAQ Profile to use the Portal?

Having an IAQ Profile allows other Portal members to see your contact information, the type of artwork you do and whether you would like to connect about mentorship, project collaboration and more! Having an IAQ Profile also allows the general public and IAQ subscribers to see what kind of work you do. For more information, see our Frequently Asked Questions about IAQ Profiles.

General Questions

How do I indicate I want to connect with someone?

At this time, direct messaging is not available through DQAP, but it does support contacting other artists through other channels. Through signing up or clicking your name on the top right hand corner, you can add your social media handles and toggle “share with artists” on so that other DQAP members can see your means of contact when they look at your IAQ Profile. You can connect with others if they have also publicly linked their email or social media accounts.

Are any of the workshops in person?

Right now, all of our workshops are virtual. However, all upcoming workshops are promoted on DQAP, so stay tuned!

I am not able to attend a live workshop, can I view it at a later date?

Yes, if you are not able to attend a live workshop it will be available to watch at your convenience through DQAP. Certain workshops are time-limited in the Portal. Videos that are temporary will be noted in the description.

I have a workshop idea, who do I contact?

We would love to hear any workshop proposals you might have! Please email your proposal to artistservices[at]inuitartfoundation[dot]org org with your full name, topic, and a brief description of the goal of the workshop (250 words max), including the workshop format. Most workshops in the series are online, last 1.5 hours, and involve a discussion between two panelists and a moderator. We’re open to different approaches, feel free to be creative! Please note any additional requirements you may have to make the workshop successful.

What content is available in Inuktut? Why is only some content in Inuktut?

We are working on translating as much as we can into Inuktut. As this is a pilot project, we are working to secure additional funding to provide more translations. If you feel strongly that additional content should be offered in Inuktut and are willing to provide a testimonial to support a funding application, please email us at artistservices[at]inuitartfoundation[dot]org. We’d love to speak with you.

I am having issues with another artist from the Portal who do I contact?

How do I know if other artists are open to connect with me?/ How can I tell what other artists are using DQAP?

If an artist is open to connecting, their social media accounts or email will be visible to you when you’re logged in on their IAQ Profile. If these options are not available, it means that either the artist is not open to connect or is not signed up as a member in the Portal.
