This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Inuvialuit Final Agreement (IFA), the second comprehensive land claims agreement in Canada that pertains to Inuit. This agreement led to the formation of the Inuvialuit Regional Corporation, a governing body whose goal is to improve the economic, social and cultural well-being of the Inuvialuit through implementation of the IFA and other means.
To celebrate, we’re spotlighting 40 Inuvialuit artists in a four-part series in the two weeks leading up to Inuvialuit Day, June 5. The featured artists work within a wide range of media and artistic practices—from printmaking to the performing arts—and give readers a taste of the incredible breadth of creativity from the region.
