The Inuit Art Quarterly has been shortlisted for Best Magazine, Literature and Art in the 2017 Canadian Magazine Awards.

The nomination, announced March 30, 2017, recognizes excellence in publishing in the arts and literature, including poetry. This is the inaugural year for the Canadian Magazine Awards presented by Magazines Canada. This is also the IAQ’s first nomination for a ‘Best Magazine’ award in its thirty year history.

The IAQ is joined by fellow visual arts journal esse art + opinions and Vallum, a bi-annual poetry and literature magazine, both based in Montreal. The jury for this award was comprised of Indigenous poet and Griffin Poetry Prize winner Liz Howard, Le Devoir art critic Nicolas Mavrikakis, authors George Murray and Stanley Péan and publisher Sandra Martin.

“This marks a significant moment in the history of the Inuit Art Quarterly and we are delighted to enter our 30th year with this achievement,” says Publisher Alysa Procida. “The recognition by the esteemed jury of the strength of our recent issues is especially rewarding. The IAQ stands in a proud tradition of showcasing Inuit art and Indigenous voices and we are grateful for our dedicated staff, our Editorial Advisory and our Board of Directors, as well as previous Editors Nancy Campbell, Christine Lalonde and Marybelle Mitchell. We are honoured by this nomination and are excited to continue to share the timely and vibrant work of Inuit artists.”

The Canadian Magazine Awards reception and ceremony will take place on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at the Four Season Hotel, Toronto.
