We posted an image a week for the last five weeks and asked for your favourite comical captions.

Week 1 Winning Caption:

“The look you give when someone asks if you live in an igloo.”

MMassie_I Know Not of What You Speak

Michael Massie I know not of what you speak (nd) serpentine, ivory, bird's eye maple, ebony, brass Size: 4 × 2.25 × 1.75 inches Courtesy  IAF © the Artist

This sassy ookpik by Nunatsiavut artist, Michael Massie, is no stranger to a good smug stink eye. We like the cut of his jib and the crowd does too! Inuit are all too familiar with this question from southerners and the winning caption captured our hearts!

Week 2 Winning Caption:

“Trying to get your kids ready for school…”

Victoria Mamnguqsualuk An Ordinary Day

This winning caption pairs well with Victoria Mamnguqsualuk’s, Qamani'tuaq (Baker Lake), NU, actual title, An Ordinary Day (1972). As any parent can tell you, wrangling children can be a chaotic job, especially in the AM if you haven’t yet had your morning java…

Week 3 Winning Caption:

“When you and your piqatik the last ones left on the tire-swing…”

Luke Anguhaduq A Time for Celebration
Luke Anguhadluq Time for Celebration (1974) Stonecut and Stencil Size: 63.5 x 97.8 cm Courtesy IAF © the Artist

Winning feels great, but winning with your BFF is even better! In this print by Luke Anguhadluq we've imaged that the two central figures are the last ones hanging on as centripetal acceleration causes their peers to go flying. Are tire swings even allowed these days?

Week 4 Winning Caption:

“I know you are but what am I?”

Tongue in cheek? Not this time, pal! Issac Panigayak, Gjoa Haven, NU, really captures the brattiness of this character in porous (funny) bone and we couldn’t love it more.

Week 5 Winning Caption:

“My Inuk brain when the teacher asks me to do a family tree project.”

Hannah Kigusiuq Inuttuit (1974)

Have you ever found yourself asking, “Are we related?” It’s a regular thing for Inuit, okay, so it’s not just Inuit, but we sure know the feeling of having a LOT of cousins! Judging by the votes on this Hannah Kigusiuq, this caption sure resonates with a lot of us!
