Simeonie Teevee

Biography

Simionie Teevee is a printmaker and graphic artist from Kinngait (Cape Dorset), NU. He started working as an assistant lithographer in the late 1970s and early 1980s, and made his first drawing in 2010, identifying his wife, artist Ningiukulu Teevee as an inspiration [1]. Saputiit (Handmade Fish Weir) (2017) shows fish tightly packed together and swimming over the page. The fish, depicted in blue, mimic the shades and movements, of water. They are the only colour depicted in the print, with rocks of varied shape outlined in a fine black line. The fish guide the eye from right to left across the page and move beyond the border of the page. Alongside his career as an artist Teevee is also a musician and performs as the lead guitar and vocalist with the Sikusiilaq Band [2].
