Biography

Katherine Takpannie is an artist and writer currently based in Ottawa, ON. Takpannie works primarily with photography that she uses to capture performative and political gestures, set against both natural and built environments, including intimate portraits of women. Takpannie has photographed many events including the opening of Larga Baffin in Ottawa, ON in 2016 as well as the Pro Seal Hunt Rally on Parliament Hill staged by Nunavut Sivuniksavut (NS) students in March 2018. Takpannie is also a graduate of the NS program. In 2018 her work was included in the group exhibition Getting Under Our Skin at the Art Gallery of Guelph and her work is held in the City of Ottawa’s art collection. Takpannie’s work will also appear in the Winter 2018 issue of the Inuit Art Quarterly themed on Exchange.
