Annie Petaulassie

Annie Petaulassie is a retired teacher and artist from Iqaluit, NU who taught for 33 years and taught Inuktitut in all subjects. She also taught for one year at Nunavut Sivuniksavut in Ottawa, ON [1]. In her sewing, beading and embroidery work, Petaulassie is inspired by the designs of her late father [2].

Petaulassie led programs for youth from across Canada and taught them how to make sealskin slippers and mitts. She also works with sewing, beading and making handcrafts such as quilting, making crochet hats, sealskin broaches, hair clips, mitts, slippers, handbags, wall hangings, parkas, beaded slippers and tops or parka covers with embroidery designs [3].

She won a Nunavut-wide contest as Nunavut's best stitcher. Petaulassie is passionate about passing on traditional knowledge and songs to younger generations [4].
